On Jackie’s Death

by Lionel E. Deimel

A but–seven-season life:

A blessing, a curse, a trial?

A lesson.  But which?

Jacquelyn N. Knisely, who was born on February 9, 1996, died on November 3, 1997, after untold emergency trips to the hospital for unexplained seizures. This poem’s not-quite-proper haiku form resulted from its being composed while driving. (Written November 1997.)
